Before the Dark – Cameron's story: fundraising for clipper race

Follow the Voyage

I won't be doing this alone—I want to bring all of you along for the ride. I will be sharing regular video logs, photo journals, and updates throughout my rigorous offshore training and every leg of the race.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story, donating if you are able, or sharing this "Before the Dark" story with your network. Your support means the world to me.

This is my opportunity to fulfil my dreams in the safest way possible and show the world that a disability doesn't define you, and it certainly can't stop your dreams!

Should fundraising not reach the target for a full circumnavigation then I will take part in as many of the legs as funding allows. Should there be an excess of funds or I cannot take part for any reason then, 100% of funds not utilised will be equally donated directly to the RNLI and Retina UK.

Fundraising for the Clipper race? Where your support goes

Ocean racing is a massive logistical challenge, and fundraising for the clipper race is a huge ask, every pound raised will go directly toward:-

1. Clipper Race Entry & Berth Fees (£59,995)

2. Mandatory Intensive Training Modules (Levels 1–4) & Offshore Safety Equipment & Specialist Gear (HPX foul weather     gear, personal AIS beacons. (£7,995)

3. Other equipment, clothing, insurance, Visa's, food and accommodation at ports and training base and travel costs to and from training  and  fundraising costs (£15,565)

Total £83,555

A bit about the Charities:

RNLI is the UK’s maritime rescue agency which receives no government funding and relies solely on volunteers and donations, to enable rescue of those in peril at sea.

Retina UK is the primary UK national charity funding medical research and supporting individuals with inherited sight loss conditions like Retinitis Pigmentosa 38 (RP38). Because RP38 is a specific autosomal recessive form caused by mutations in the MERTK gene, Retina UK acts as a crucial hub by funding targeted gene research, including tracking global advancements like new MERTK focused gene therapy clinical trials, while providing patient support networks, genetic counselling, guidance and advocacy to ensure individuals get accurate genetic diagnoses to qualify for future treatments. Which unfortunately I will not qualify for.

Fair winds and thank you,

Cameron
